WELCOME TO THE WORKING WEEK

The weekend resulted in something surprisingly optimistic. In addition to booking a film, I met with a new team of people who - with me - want to write and shoot a short. The goal we've discussed is April, which gives us plenty of time for pre-production, but being asked to start something from the ground floor is both flattering and exciting! Additionally, some nanny work turned up (I watched 4 kids under 5 - and learned never to have 4 kids in 5 years) and a family friend called me to write recommendation letters for her elementary school students applying to middle schools. The reason this was so optimisitc is not because I want to be babysitting or writing recommendation letters, but it shows the prospect of freelance work coupled with other, more interesting projects. Hopefully the rest of the year will follow in this pattern - at least until the more interesting work pays. Today it's back to the grindstone, but I'll be shooting a short film and looking forward to a second meeting with the director and producer of the start-up short this weekend. Welcome to the working week!

WELCOME TO THE WORKING WEEK

What a whirlwind weekend it was! Last night I had a herd of people come out to see the show and it felt so good to see some familiar faces in the audience. It feels equally good, if not better, to hear their positive reinforcement - especially from people in the field. A great friend came into town yesterday morning - I loved having the chance to catch up and swap stories. We've got a number of irons in the fire together; planning a photoshoot, orchestrating her move to LA next year, and brainstorming costume ideas for our imminent trip to New Orleans! This morning I officially booked my trip to New York, leaving no more than 24 hours after the close of my show. No time to let the moss grow! This week I have another audition, meeting with a casting director, some nights left open to spend with friends, a photoshoot, and the anticipation of the closing weekend of Dreams Factory. Welcome to your working week.

WELCOME TO THE WORKING WEEK

I was a happy host to those escaping Irene this weekend, although the storm did seem to be something of an anti-climax (at least in major cities). Saturday's lecture provided interesting insight into the auditioning process. If you care to learn some tips, check out Tim Philips - who teaches in both LA and NYC. His book, "Audition for Your Career, Not the Job," will be available in stores soon. The rest of the day was spent getting to know someone new. It's always a rare and happy occasion when the more you learn, the more you like. Sunday the cast got together for another 12 hour day of tech rehearsals. We're down to the wire, so pressure is on. And although the hours are long and the drive, even longer, I'm lucky to be working with good people, whose company I enjoy, and whose work I admire. The week promises to be busy in preparation for opening night on Friday! Welcome to your working week.

WELCOME TO THE WORKING WEEK

The weekend was highly productive; an audition and total of 12 hours rehearsing. I went shopping with the excuse of "finding a costume" and discovered an enormous sale at a favorite shop. A good friend moved into a new apartment not far from my own and I'm thrilled. Whatever makes life more convienient is a welcome change. These days any social activity feels like a gift. A good friend is coming to visit from New York this week and I hope I squeeze as much time out of my schedule as possible. Maximing time is a skill I hadn't valued or fully understood until now and I imagine the trials will only get more difficult. But the feeling of being busy is a good one - as long as I fill my days with productivity, the only direction to move is forward.

I finished the opening chapter of my manuscript (I've been writing everything out of order) and it's very exciting. The only person I've read it to burst into tears, which I interpret as a good sign. It's going to take effort not to post about it, but I'm trying to keep it under wraps and finish the entire book by December! Enjoy your working week, or whatever it is that you do.
