This weekend I attended the 25th anniversary dinner for Grand Performances; a free summer performing arts series, featuring classical, contemporary, and world music and dance. The concerts happen every Friday and Saturday night at the water court of 300 Grand Ave plaza in downtown Los Angeles. All concerts are absolutely free. It's nice to see support for music and dance in the Hollywood-omniscient landscape of LA, especially for an initiative to make the arts more accessible. If you're interested in seeing what Grand Performances is all about, check out this week's shows:

Friday, July 15th @ 8:00: Seun Kuti and the Egypt 80
Saturday, July 16th @ 8:00: Baloji and Tasneem

Performances are outdoors, so bring a sweater and a picnic.
