Catherine Deneuve, Belle du Jour |
These iconic French actresses embody the kind of effortless beauty that seems to define
joie du vive. At least in the movies, a French woman is more likely to be a temptress than a girl-next-door. Her style is simple, her beauty is dangerous. I am inspired by the timelessness and simplicity of their style. After seeing Catherine Deneuve in
Belle du Jour, (shown above) I made an investment in a black patten leather trench coat, which, as it turns out, is not exactly wearable in Los Angeles. These women exude sexuality, but not in the explicit (American) way. Their conservative dress doesn't begin, or even try to subdue their inherent sensuality, which is expressed through attitude, intellect, and mystery, instead of a plunging neckline.
